FAQ Workers

Zero-emission plywood is manufactured in a certain way to reduce the emission or “off-gassing” of formaldehyde – a component used in adhesives & resins to bind the wood panels. The plywood is E-Zero emission compliant when the formaldehyde concentration is less than or equal to 0.5 mg/litre. This ensures that the plywood does not emit any pollutants into the environment.

Formaldehyde is a gaseous organic compound that is colourless & has a strong, pungent smell. It’s an important chemical feedstock in industrial resins, including the adhesive used to bond plywood products. It can be listed as Phenol-Formaldehyde (PF), Urea Formaldehyde (UF) or Melamine Formaldehyde (MF). Exposure to formaldehyde in certain concentrations is a health hazard. The World Health Organization (WHO), The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) & the National Toxicology Program (NTP) have all classified it as a carcinogen. Prolonged inhalation & exposure to this substance can lead to various ailments, skin diseases, respiratory infections, and in rare cases, even cancer.
That’s why it is vital to buy E-Zero plywood to ensure low-formaldehyde emission.

Our plywood is evaluated under various environmental conditions & standardized methods used for formaldehyde emission analysis. Tested and approved by Universal Testing & Research Centre, New Delhi, India, our E-Zero plywood meets the requirements of California Air Resources Board (CARB) and EPA emission standards – deeming it the safest, eco-friendly & healthier option to choose for interior designing.

Harmful emissions from formaldehyde cause poor indoor air quality. E-Zero compliant plywood pertains to Minimal Health Risk, meaning the off-gas emissions are either very low or undetectable. This ensures the air is safe to breathe.

Sharon PLATINUM PLY and Sharon Gold Marine Plywood are now with E-Zero emission compliant.

While zero formalin wood adhesives & hardeners are being considered, these alternatives have the worse reactivity to the raw materials. As a result, using formaldehyde-free resins will affect the mechanical & strength properties of wood-based panels. This poses a substantial challenge for the complete replacement of formaldehyde, as the quality of the product is at stake. Hence E-Zero grade is approved as the safest compliance until a breakthrough in industrial technology.
